Mrs Sparks' Office Remarks

 featured image
Dear Families,

This term is flying past, remember to start thinking of book week ideas for the last week of term. Our lovely Librarian, Miss Tilley will be sending home information in the next newsletter regarding book week and the book fair for open night.

Reminder – Unpaid billing items

Statements of your child’s account will be coming home towards the end of next week.

Remember there are multiple ways to pay and you are always welcome to set up a payment plan.  It is a department directive that these statements are sent out to parents.

Updates to the departments Working With Children Checks (WWCC)

There have been reforms to strengthen the WWCC legislation and this will have an impact on parent volunteers and other visitors to the school.  Depending on the nature of their visit they must now either complete a Parent and Child volunteer declaration form or complete the application for a WWCC.

Definition of parent

From the Working with Children Checks in Department of Education Sites procedures, a parent is a person who:

  • is the father, mother, stepfather or stepmother of the child
  • at law has responsibility for the long-term care, welfare and development of the child; or the day-to-day care, welfare and development of the child
  • is in a de facto relationship with a person referred to in either of the first 2 dot points
  • is specified as the child’s prospective adoptive parent under the Adoption Act 1994 section 20(b).
Examples when a parent is volunteering

A parent is volunteering and eligible for an exemption when:

  • helping with reading
  • attending a day excursion
  • presenting an award or speaking at an assembly
  • on canteen duty
  • assisting at a sports carnival
  • conducting P&C duties.

They must complete the Parent and child volunteer declaration form.

If you do not fit the definition of a ‘Parent” then you must have applied or have a current Working with Children Check card before you are able to participate in school volunteer activities.
